Nokomis is one of the older settled spots on this stretch of coast and the mix of homes shows it. Sorrento East and the streets off Albee Road hold houses that have been standing for decades, plenty of them owned by people who have kept the same appliances a long time. A few minutes east, Calusa Lakes, Toscana Isles and the communities off Laurel Road are barely out of construction. Laurel Road has changed the traffic here. The interstate interchange and everything built around it means the east side of Nokomis backs up in the morning, so if you want an early appointment on that side, book it the day before rather than the same morning.

The third thing is the beach end. Nokomis Beach and the south end of Casey Key are exposed, and salt air pits metal on garage and outdoor appliances quickly. A second refrigerator or a chest freezer sitting in an open garage near the water will lose its condenser to corrosion years before the same unit would inland. If you keep one out there, have the coils cleaned once a year and keep the door seal dry.
